How to prepare for the ISO  9001 & ISO  14001 Revisions

Updated December 2026

What you need to know, and when

If you're feeling nervous about the upcoming changes to ISO 9001 and ISO  14001, we’re here to help. These updates are manageable, and we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Key timelines at a glance

  • ISO 14001 is expected to be published in April 2026

  • ISO 9001 is expected in September 2026

…these timelines are now well‑established, though final publication dates may shift slightly as the standards are formally released.

Deadlines to transition:

  • Organisations will have 3 years to transition to the new versions of the standards, so right now we’re expecting March 2029 (ISO 14001) and September 2029 (ISO 9001)

  • However, we will be transitioning our clients well before the deadlines, making it as smooth and easy as possible

  • Most certification bodies are likely to require additional audit time to cover transition assessments against the revised standards

What’s changing?

ISO  9001:2015 → 2026

  • Promotion of ethics and integrity by leaders

  • Enhanced focus on risk management

  • Greater emphasis on stakeholder engagement

  • Improved alignment with other management systems

  • It’s also worth noting that climate change considerations are already a requirement following the ISO  9001:2015 Amendment published in 2024.

ISO  14001:2015 → 2026

  • Climate change integration

  • A new clause on change management

  • Enhanced risk planning

  • Supply chain & lifecycle focus

  • Strengthened performance monitoring and reporting

  • Clarified structure & wording

However, the final wording isn’t published yet and could still be tweaked before final release.
